bogus Coil Harness Orientation

I am re-installing the LTCC in my 92 LT1 vette. The new harness uses the OEM Delphi coil sub harness. This sub harness connects to all 4 of the coils on one bank.

What I don't know is which is the first and which is the last! I am going to tone out the harness tomorrow night unless someone has an answer to this quiz.

The car does run... just seems to be out... much like a crossed wire on an old school distributor.

Thanks!

They didn't give you a wiring diagram?

the install manual can be downloaded here.

pinout included

http://www.fullthrottletech.com/showthread.php?t=903

Quote:

LTCC INSTALLATION:

* LTCC Unit Pin-Out as Follows. *
A – Low-Res OPTI signal [4x]
B – Hi-Res OPTI signal [360x]
C - +12 volt signal for logic circuits [ Switched IGN]
D – Ground for logic circuits [ RefLo from PCM]

E – 2-Step Trigger Input (Yellow) > Switched + 12V, energize this input to activate the two step or retard.
F – EST input from PCM (White) > @ Ignition module.

G – Cylinder 2 Coil Output
H – Cylinder 4 Coil Output
J – Cylinder 6 Coil Output
K – Cylinder 8 Coil Output

M – Cylinder 7 Coil Output
N – Cylinder 5 Coil Output
P – Cylinder 3 Coil Output
R - Cylinder 1 Coil Output

The OPTI Signals connect inline at the junction of the 4 Pin OPTI – PIGTAIL.
INSURE that The Production Pigtail has no corrosion or Defective Connections
This is on the top of the engine on RH passenger side (usually near Purge SOL Valve )

At the coil ends of the harness are Pink and Black wires for “Coil Power”
Ground the Black wires to the Engine Block as close as practical to the coils,

IT IS_ ESSENTIAL THAT_ GOOD GROUNDS ARE PRESENT.

Connect the Pink Wires to the Pink w/Black trace wire that formerly fed the LT1 single coil.
Some models use a pink wire here. Verify 12 Volts key-on to feed the pink LTCC wires.

*The Production Coil and Module are No Longer Used .

The LTCC Current Draw is 16 Amps Net.
The vehicle Coil/Ignition Fuse_ Will need to be increased in size.
Recommend start with a 20 Amp.
Do this PRIOR to Powering up the Ignition System.

There is a 4 Position “Mode” Dip Switch inside the unit that has the following functions;

Mode 1 . Off=Soft-Touch Rev Limiter ; On=Hard Cut Off Rev Limiter
Mode 2 . Off= Energize 2-step Input to Activate ; On= De-Energize 2-step Input to Activate
Mode 3 . Determines 4x Low-Res Decode Mode. Off=rising edge, On = Falling edge (Leave this off)
Mode 4 . Off= N.O.S. Retard Activated by 2-step Input ; On = Low Rev Limit Activated by 2-step Input.

Securely Mount the LTCC Box away from Heat Sources. Do not mount the unit to the engine, the heat and vibration will damage the unit.

There are 2 Dials inside the unit “LIM” = Rev Limiter, And “RET” = N.O.S. Retard and Low Rev Limit.

The selections are as follows:
LIM = Rev Limit

0 - DISABLE
1 - 6100
2 - 6200
3 - 6300
4 - 6400
5 - 6500

9 - 6900

The Soft-Touch Rev Limiter Spans about 400 rpm. If set to 3000, It May climb as high as 3400 until_ all Cylinders are Disabled. This is Calibratable and can be altered if required.

LED’s
Green: ON= Sync, The LTCC has correctly decoded the optispark signals and is controlling the ignition.
Red: Error Indicator, Blinks to indicate Detected Errors. (Lights up for 1 second as Power On Self - Test)
1 Blink = Cylinder Decode Sequence Error.
2 Blink = Wrong number of Hi-Res pulses counted between Lo-Res rising edges
3 Blink = Wrong number of Hi-Res pulses counted during a High Lo-Res pulse or Low Lo-Res Pulse.
4 Blink = EST Signal from PCM = Missed Pulse. Check connection to White wire (External Rev-Limiter devices must not be used.)

The engine must make 50 revolutions before the error checking is enabled, this is a few seconds running or ~20 seconds cranking.

The new LTCC harness is entirely different than what you post.

Remember - I rewrote the manual for the LTCC! Thanks a lot, tho, for all the info you researched!

However... the new harness has a main trunk about 12" long and two 50" pigtails. Each pigtail has a multipronged weatherpack connector that plugs into an OEM Delphi coil sub harness.

This sub-harness has 4 coil plugs, one ground and the mate to the LTCC weatherpack. The question is this: Which of those coil plugs is #1 for a given bank?

Check out the drawing of the coil sub harness... I don't have a picture.

The engine is acting much like it's 180* out.

that was it... the right bank coil harness was installed backwards.

From Bob:

Quote:
from the instructions:
G – Cylinder 2 Coil Output (Red)
H – Cylinder 4 Coil Output (Green)
J – Cylinder 6 Coil Output (Blue)
K – Cylinder 8 Coil Output (Purple)

M – Cylinder 7 Coil Output (Red/White)
N – Cylinder 5 Coil Output (Green/White)
P – Cylinder 3 Coil Output (Blue/White)
R - Cylinder 1 Coil Output (Purple/White)

Note that the harness colors should carry thru to the coil.

So cylinders 1 and 8 have purple trigger wires.

I will test it tomorrow night.
